Who we are
Hi I’m Amber and I’m obsessed with thrift shops.
The Local Thrift Project was born out of frustration witnessing local charity organisations discarding quality, useable items daily. I knew there were alternatives to landfill and textile recycling but my ideas weren’t given an opportunity until I partnered with Henley Opportunity Shop.
Here I became Director and through creative sorting methods, redistribution, repurposing and recycling I have transformed the standard op shop model into an ever evolving network ensuring no useable items are sent to landfill or to textile recyclers unnecessarily.
We host clothing swaps at Ngutungka West Lakes every fourth Saturday as a part of Sustainability Saturdays and also run a creative DIY workshop using damaged or hard to sell donated items.
