In December 2024 Henley Opportunity Shop partnered with Local Thrift Project to reduce landfill and increase community impact.
This partnership ended the reliance on external textile recycling services, increased the amount of donations received and tripled the shop income.
Community engagement increased and Henley Opportunity Shop has become known as a thrift shop “doing things differently”
Simple sorting, recycling and redistribution solutions have become the new normal and the Local Thrift project system has been integrated seamlessly into daily shop operations completely volunteer powered.
Other local thrift shops have taken notice, many adopting some of our solutions into their own operations. A perpetual free rack out the front of the store allows items to stay in use in the community and avoids unnecessary textile recycling. Community connections have been strengthened and by redirecting donations to other local organisations impact has been increased and support shared across multiple council areas expanding our reach.
This partnership has expanded The Henley Opportunity Shop social media presence allowing it to become monetised and showcase to its ever increasing followers the alternative Local Thrift Project methods.
